Fresha Alternative for Barbers: Costs and Features Compared (UK)
Fresha is popular with UK barbers, and its marketplace can bring in new clients. But barbering is a volume business: short appointments, lower prices and lots of chairs. Some of Fresha’s charges weigh more heavily on that model than on a salon doing £120 colours.
Pricing checked 27 September 2026 on Fresha’s UK pricing page. Fresha’s prices exclude VAT.
What Fresha Charges a Barbershop
- Subscription: £14.95 a month for a one-person business, or £9.95 a month per bookable team member on the Team plan.
- New-client fee: a one-time 20% commission when a brand-new client finds you on the Fresha marketplace, minimum £4. Returning clients and clients who find you through your own channels are free.
- Card payments: 1.19% + 20p in person, plus 7p per Tap to Pay authorisation, or 1.40% + 25p online.
- Texts: 20 free automated messages a month, then 6p each.
Why It Adds Up Differently for Barbers
Every chair is a subscription. A four-chair shop on the Team plan pays £39.80 a month before VAT, and each new barber adds £9.95.
The £4 minimum bites on short services. 20% of a £15 beard trim is £3, but the minimum makes it £4, over a quarter of the price. On a £20 cut it is exactly £4 either way.
Reminder texts run out fast. With dozens of appointments a day, 20 free automated texts won’t last long. Plan for per-message costs, or use email reminders.
None of this makes Fresha a bad choice. If its marketplace fills your chairs with clients who come back every few weeks, the fees are a fair price for that.
What to Look For in a Fresha Alternative
- Pricing that doesn’t grow per chair. A flat fee means adding a barber costs nothing extra.
- Short slot lengths, so 15-minute beard trims and 30-minute fades fit the diary without gaps.
- Walk-ins and cash recorded in the same diary as online bookings.
- Deposits or card details at booking for no-show-prone slots such as Saturdays.
- Your own booking link for Instagram and Google, so regulars book you directly.
How Slotivo Compares
Slotivo is free for one or two staff and £10 a month flat for three or more, however many barbers you add. There is no marketplace and no commission. Slots can be as short as 15 minutes, walk-ins and cash payments go in the same diary, and you can take deposits online through Stripe at Stripe’s standard rates.
The trade-off: Slotivo won’t find you new clients the way Fresha’s marketplace can. It is for shops whose chairs are filled by regulars, word of mouth and Instagram.
